Nicky Hayden

Nicholas "Nicky" Patrick Hayden born on July 30th, 1981 in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA is an outstanding motorcycle racer. He won his first MotoGP World Championship title in 2006.

Nick Hayden fondly known as 'The Kentucky Kid' began racing at an early age and while growing in his years he mastered the art of racing. He participated in several races like AMA Superbike, AMA 600 Supersport, AMA 750 Superstock, and AMA Formula Extreme and won most of them displaying his amazing racing skills. He won his first Grand National Championship race and took Rookie of the Year honors in 1999. In 2002, Nicky Hayden became the youngest ever AMA Superbike Champion after he defeated the triple champ Mat Mladin. His stunning victory that year at Peoria TT also broke the record of 13 consecutive wins achieved by Chris Carr.

Beginning his rookie year in MotoGP championship in 2003, Nicky Hayden remarkably finished 5th in the championship standings and subsequently won the Rookie-of-the-Year award. The following year he finished eighth and surprisingly bounced back in 2005 season. With a race win and 6 podium finishes. Nicky Hayden finished 3rd behind runner-up Marco Melandri and series winner Valentino Rossi.

Nicky Hayden riding for Repsol Honda team gave a tough fight to the seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi in 2006. Displaying a breathtaking performance throughout the season, especially in the last two GPs, Nicky Hayden ultimately clinched the crown from Valentino Rossi and ended the run of Rossi’s unstoppable winning streak.

Nicky Hayden has signed a two-year deal with Honda Racing Corporation to race for them in 2007 and 2008 MotoGP seasons. Whether Nicky Hayden retains his crown or cedes it to the challenger in 2007 is yet to be seen.
